cell phone industry news

June 5th, 2008

Apple is doing fairly well in the cell phone business. They are trying to get 1% of the market. This doesn’t sound like much but it really ads up to some money and profits. This 1% is about 10 million units sold. I recent survey was done on how many people will actually buy the new apple ipod. 1 out of 10 people said they plan to buy one. Another 7 % they plan to buy on as a gift for someone. The cell phone market world wide is about 1 billion cell phones. Apple just wants 1% in the first year. Seems they should reach this goal without much effort. The iPhone’s overall integration of iPod, Phone, Camera and Email/Internet capability is the main selling point to buy one.

Motorolla is currently the leading company making the phones with a 33% market share. Lg is the second largest with 15% and nokia has 14%.

I remember back at my junior year in high school we had to choice a stock to write a report about. This was for a economics class. Now that I remember this story my teacher did a kit kat commercial and bragged about it for basically one period. He ended up dropping the prop in the river. The crew wasn’t happy about this since it was expensive. He was kyacking on the river in the scene. I remember him not wanting to tell us what his royalties were. I’m sure it was so low it would be embarrising to mention. So for this project I picked Altell the big telecom provider. I just recently read they got bought out by verizon for 28 billion. It seems verizon is the leading right now in the cell phone market and maybe the land line phone market as well. The accessories market is seeming to grow as well. People like to buy the phone skins to personalize there phone. Also the cell phone chargers are likely to sell well as the market for cell phones is climbing compared to land lines.

things to take when backpacking

June 5th, 2008

I love to go hiking here in Oregon. I live outside of Portland Oregon and about one hour to the Oregon coast. So I will make a list of things to take when you go backpacking.

A torch/flashlight - you don’t want to be stranded on a trail with no flashlight. I have almost put myself in this position.

First aid kit - a must have. If you get cut or injured you should be prepared.

A multi-purpose pocket knife - I carry one with me and so should you.

Sunglasses - It’s nice to look cool but its also helps to protect your eyes against the sun.

Sunscreen- You don’t want to burn your skin. If your around sand or snow this can magnify the sun.

Light sheet/sleeping bag

Toilet roll

A few bin liners

energy bars help trim fat

June 3rd, 2008

It’s summer now and if you plan to take your shirt off in public you should be in shape. I admit I have let myself go way to far with being overweight. I actually just did a post on top 10 healthiest foods to eat. I didn’t see any famous fast food items on the list. I like to hike as a hobby which can really get you sweating. Some of my favorite trails are on highway 6 here in Oregon. These trails on are the way to the Oregon coast or at the coast. One of my favorite ones is called Kings Mountain. I have a book I bought about hiking called Oregon Hiking the complete guide to more then 280 hikes written by Megan McMorris. This hike is 3 miles and takes about 2.5 hours to do. Since I’m out of shape I have to stop many times to take a breather and drink so water. I also bring along with me some healthy snack bars to boost my energy. It must be the thiner air or the elevation because it really takes some energy for me to do this hike. I am overweight so I’m sure this has a factor. Also this trail doesn’t mess around it goes up to 2,700 feet at the peak. This trail is located in the Tillamook forest area. I have a short story to tell you. From 1930s to 1950s the Tillamook forest had some fires which burnt down 355,000 acres. This is enough timber to build 1 million five bedroom homes. The locals planted 72 million seeds so today you can’t really tell fires even took place. If you do go hiking along the Oregon coast make sure you take some food and water. I recommend some high protein bars.

I should of brought my hiking book on my last outing to the beach. My last trip I went more south in the Oregon dunes area. I rented a wimpy atv for a couple of hours. The dunes I picked I didn’t realize it is the biggest in Oregon. They are located in Winchester Bay. I’m looking in my book now and see 5 cool trails you can hike. Two of them are around a lake with great fishing. One which I was right next to hikes in the actual dunes for 5 miles. So I will have to do these my next trip down south. Don’t forget on your next hike to pack yourself some all natural energy bar and water at the bare minimum.

# 1 Berries
Berries are extremely rich in antioxidants which help protect the cells in our bodies from diseases like cancer. They are also an excellent source of Vitamin C and soluble fiber.
# 2 Broccoli
Broccoli (and other cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and cabbage) helps fight cancer, especially affecting the breast, colon and lung. It boosts the immune system.
# 3 Citrus Fruits
The citrus bioflavanoids in oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit have anti-cancer
# 4 Garlic
Numerous studies have shown that garlic can lower blood pressure and decrease LDL cholesterol (the “bad” one) while increasing the good HDL cholesterol.

The Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon and other fatty fish may help prevent heart disease and stroke.

# 10 Turkey
Turkey is especially lean and low in calories, making it an excellent healthy food choice.

structured settlement payments

May 24th, 2008

I love playing poker but sometimes it does get boring. If I ever win a huge jackpot I want to be able to claim all money money at one time. In most instances if you win a slot jackpot in the millions they will give you payments on the winnings. Why do this. They are just making big interest and profit from the money. I better way is to get all your money upfront by using a Structured Settlement.

My best to date winnings with online poker was $2300 in a tournament. I don’t play as many these days since online poker has basically been slowed down. The US government made it really hard for people to deposit money. I also think online poker could be rigged. All the online casino companies are bases overseas in countries like Costa Rica. The owners of these casinos are making billions yearly. No wonder USA wanted to get there hands on it. The casinos say the have random card generators and are monitored by a company in Canada. Odds are they are skimming off the top. Who is to stop them from doing it. I’m sure they have computer people bots playing trying to win money. Since the money with poker is the players money. They do make a rack but they would make super huge profits going the bot route. So if you come into a lot of money and don’t want to wait on getting paid check out Structured Settlements to get paid today and not over 30 years with inflation taking most of your money.

hillary clinton comments

May 24th, 2008

Oh Senator Hillary Clinton, would you please, please, please, please, please stop talking! When the Sioux Falls Argus Leader asked her why she’s still campaigning, she mused, “My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California.” Today she’s apologizing for that, but now everyone’s pointing out that she’s been peddling that tale for months!

“She has said much the same thing before. In a March interview with Time magazine, she said: ‘Primary contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn’t wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June, also in California. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual.’

good cheap web hosting

May 19th, 2008

A couple of years ago I use to sell items off and on on Ebay. I used cheap web hosting however they would go down more then most host do. Also it wasn’t the fastest loading. Just the other day they tried billing me and I haven’t used them in probably over a year. Well now that I think of it I think I payed 10.00 for the year. This is the reason. That is way too cheap for hosting. I only used it to host images.

One thing that you need to look for is a company a friend has recommended or one you know has a good reputation. Some host won’t give you any support if its cheap hosting. They don’t feel its worth their time and the cost for support out ways the income from cheap accounts. Some are really great for newbies to websites. They come with cpanel or another easy way to upload pages. Also they come with web page editors you can use for free. I personally have two hosting accounts. My first one is low cost hosting which uses the host own control panel. So this is more of a manual process. Recently I got a reseller account which uses cpanel. It is much easier to setup websites ect. I got this host because I have heard of the name and went on the reputation of this host. Its best to do your do diligence when picking a web host. If your new to c panel use cPanel Tutorials.
